The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season was one of the worst on record. People living with diabetes who use insulin are vulnerable to any disaster that interrupts access to refrigeration, medication, and supplies. This has led a number of diabetes organizations, including the American Diabetes Association, JDRF, Insulin for Life, and T1D Exchange, to form the Diabetes Emergency Relief Coalition (DERC). This coalition is working together to ensure that people with diabetes quickly have access to the supplies they need after disaster strikes.
